It does not get much easier than that.

Even if you want to visit the Great Wall at Badaling it is within easy reach from the hotel for just around $5 US.

If you ask my wife, who is a Beijing native when the best time to visit Beijing her answer is April or September. Go in April to witness the flowers blooming in spring or September to enjoy more pleasant weather before winter sets in.
