Last Thursday Terminal 5 was opened at Heathrow Airport. British Airways may now wish that it never happened. Since the opening 245 flights have had to be canceled.
British Airways are the sole tenant of Terminal 5. Things are so bad that the British transport secretary has offered support from the government to help resolve the problems.
The main cause of the problems has been the baggage system. Over 15,000 bags have been stranded in the opening few days.
British Airways chief executive has said the baggage system is now working well.
David Frost, director general of British Chambers of Commerce has called the opening of Terminal 5 at Heathrow a public relations disaster. Contrast this with the recent opening of the new terminal at Beijing’s Capital Airport. It seems to be all going well in China.
As British Airways are the only airline using the new terminal it would be best to avoid BA flights until the problems have been sorted out.
