what causes car over heat after a top overhaul?

i just had my car top overhauled, but after that the emgine temp change, it 3/4 of the gauge, what seems to be the problem?

If the thermostat is ok I would have the mechanic check and make sure all of the air is bled out of the system. When an engine is torn apart to that level it is easy to get trapped air in the cooling system and until it is all gone the car can overheat or run hotter.
