Australia Day on Sydney Harbour

January 26th in Australia is the day Australia celebrates Australia Day. As part of the celebrations Sydney Harbour hosted a tall ship race. The majestic sailing ships from an era long since past looked magnificent on the most beautiful city harbour I have seen in the world.
A large crowd gathered near the Sydney Opera House as the ships headed west along the Sydney Harbour and under Sydney Harbour Bridge.
In a contrast from the tall ships sailing on Sydney Harbour there was the Pacific Dawn cruise ship. It is a huge ocean liner and was in Sydney to collect passengers before departing on a 10 Pacific cruise.
Pacific Dawn, Australia’s first Superliner, first arrived in Australian waters in November 2007 and is now cruising from Sydney to unspoilt tropical islands. My ideal cruise would be The Pearls of Tahiti which departs 3 June 2008, 28 nights aboard Pacific Dawn.
Later in the evening on Australia Day there was a spectacular show including fireworks at Darling Harbour. Hundreds of thousand of Sydneysiders enjoyed the show.
Cronulla beach was also a popular destination for thousands of party goers. A heavy police presence was on hand to ensure the past problems did not occur. Thousands of young Australians partied while wearing the Australian flag or singlets with the flag.

Free Bird Feeding at Burrill Lake, Australia
Author: Robert
I have been going to Burrill Lake for about 22 years. It is a delightful little community around 2 and a half hours south of Sydney, and just 5kms from Ulladulla/Mollymook. As the name suggests there is a lake which opens to the ocean. You can go fishing, swimming and boating at the lake. This time last year on went on a cruise at Burrill Lake.
Just near the lake there is a beach. As this is not patrolled it is a safer option to go up the road 7kms to Mollymook beach. This beach is beautiful. It has a long stretch of sand and has a headland at one end that can be walked around. My wife and I also discovered a great natural rock pool. In all my time going to the South Coast I had not seen this delightful swimming area. It is so calm and the water is crystal clear.
Another fun attraction I had not bothered to check out before was free bird feeding at the Big4 Bungalow Park. A friend of mine had been recently and said it was better than the Currumbin bird park on the Gold Coast of Australia. After hearing that I had to see for myself. As it turned out there were plenty of birds however they did not all land on the patrons as expected. If you were patient you got up close and personal with the rainbow lorikeets that frequent the area.
The park is located on the south side of Burrill Lake. You will find the bird feeding setup just near the office for the park. The feeding takes place at 4.00pm each day.
Airlines Airbus A380 superjumbo
Author: Robert
The new Airbus A380 superjumbo has been in service for close to two months now. Have you been lucky enough to fly on this giant of the skies? I will be looking at flying on it once the Sydney to London flight is opened by Singapore Airlines. Until then you can read a review by Carrie Berdon who recently flew from Sydney to Changi Airport in Singapore.
You can read her article here.
Qantas airlines plans to add some of the A380’s to the fleet as soon as Airbus can get them ready. By now there should have been a lot more of them in the skies. I can’t wait to take my turn on the superjumbo.
